Pantanal: where a capybara is just a capybara

Before the city, the place she always lived: grass up to her belly, a river beside her, and three predators taking the job seriously.

The Pantanal has everything a capybara needs and everything she runs from. Short, soft grass at the water's edge, a river to escape into, and the highest density of jaguars on the continent. She lives in a group there, with sentries holding their heads up while the others graze, and the whole day is that negotiation: eat in the open, go back to the water.

It is also where the bark makes sense. Out in the open, one animal's alarm serves the entire group — and the entire group answers. Anyone who has seen a herd freeze together does not forget it: thirty animals stopping in the same instant, all looking the same way.

The level that teaches the game. Eat all the grass and reach the river without becoming lunch, with the herd grazing nearby and a jaguar closing in little by little, warning you with a snapped branch and a growl before it pounces.
