About the game
A browser game about the calmest animal in Brazil and about the fright that makes that animal bark. Free, no sign-up, nothing to install.
How it is built
Everything runs in the browser, in 16-bit pixel art drawn on a canvas, with no game engine. The whole site is static and deliberately small: it loads fast on an old phone and a bad connection, which is where most people play. Each level is a data file checked before it runs, which keeps impossible levels out.
Project rules
- All art and all writing are original. No third-party sprites, photos or music without a clear licence.
- No real brands appear. The market is “the market”, the neighbourhood is “the neighbourhood”.
- No real person is identifiable, not even in the jokes.
- The cities are treated fondly. The joke is in the situation, never in the town.
Sound
The bark is the heart of the game, so the capybara's voice has its own audio channel and never sits under the sound effects. Today's sounds are placeholders synthesised in code; real recordings are being sought from people with wildlife vocalisation archives, with credit and licence on record. Meanwhile ambience stays switched off: synthesised ambience turns into hiss, and hiss is worse than silence.
Why there are ads
Ads pay for the domain and the hosting and keep the game free, with no sign-up and nothing sold inside it. The slots sit away from the buttons on purpose: an accidental ad click helps nobody. The privacy policy spells out exactly which cookies are involved.
