Votorantim, the city of capybaras
In some cities a capybara in the street is an incident. There it is scenery — there are even capybara crossing signs on the avenue.
Votorantim is known as the city of capybaras, for the number of them living along the Sorocaba river. In April 2025 a herd of at least thirteen paraded through the central area, near a skate park called, with no irony at all, Capybara Park. The city hall has already used the capybara as a symbol of the town in official artwork.
Neighbouring Sorocaba has capybara crossing signs on the avenues that run beside the river. Coexistence cuts both ways: the resident who finds it charming, and the driver who has to brake at three in the afternoon because the herd decided to cross in single file, pups in the middle, in no hurry whatsoever.
In the game
Cross the downtown avenue with the whole herd, using gaps in the traffic and the crossing. A red light is your chance, the dog runs faster than you but tires, and nobody can be left behind.
